Welcome to the blog of Dr. Lisa Burns' Fall 2022 Political Communication class. Our goal is to provide insightful commentary on political communication strategy in the 2022 midterm elections and the impact of image politics, polling, and the partisan divide on political discourse and voter (dis)engagement.

Social Media – Tuesday, September 27th (Blog #4)
How are the campaigns using websites and social media to target voters and how does it differ from previous campaigns? Do you think their messaging strategies have been effective thus far and what, if any, changes would you recommend? Finally, how important is online campaign communication in the 2022 campaign? Along with referring to the class readings, use examples from your candidate’s website and one social media account (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc.) to support your response. Each Election Eve team member should analyze a different platform, so be sure to coordinate with each other for this particular assignment.

Campaign Marketing & Branding – Tuesday, September 20th (Blog #3)
Using the criteria laid out in the Burns & Marchese chapter (posted on Blackboard), how would you describe the image and brand of the candidate you’re following for the Election Eve Project? How important are the visual aspects of their brand? Does your candidate have a clear brand personality and messaging strategy? And has their messaging been consistent? Your response should be based on an analysis of the candidate’s website and recent social media posts and supported with information from the required sources (the Burns & Marchese chapter, a Blackboard article from the 9-20 folder, and an additional article you select on your own).

Issues, Battlegrounds, and Voting Blocs – Tuesday, September 13th (Blog #2)
Why are Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Florida important battlegrounds in the 2022 midterm election? What are the key demographic voting blocs that could make the difference in the races you’re tracking for the Election Eve Project? What are some of the key issues for voters in your state? Finally, offer your initial impressions on how your candidate is targeting these demographics and addressing these issues – what are they doing well and where can they improve? Remember that you must use one of the readings posted on the Daily Schedule, one of the readings from Blackboard, and an outside source to support your response.
